Abstract
This IDC study sizes the online gaming subscription market in Asia/Pacific
(excluding Japan) or APEJ. This study includes 2005 historical data and 2006 to
2010 forecast by number of subscribers and subscription revenue for the seven
key markets tracked by IDC Asia/Pacific' s Online Gaming research: Hong Kong,
Korea, the People' s Republic of China (PRC), Malaysia, the Philippines,
Singapore, and Taiwan.
"The APEJ online gaming market has grown into an incredibly diverse and
interesting market over the past several years. Korea remained the hub for
online gaming in APEJ, while the online gaming market in the PRC continues to
receive increased attention due to the revenue that can be generated from this
massive and addressable user base," says Claudio Checchia, research manager,
Consumer Markets, IDC Asia/Pacific. "Vendors and service providers (SPs) alike
will need to address individual markets in the APEJ online gaming market region
in a calculated and specific, per-country approach. As each country is composed
of distinct and varied market characteristics, a singular strategy across
countries may not be the most effective nor efficient solution."
