Abstract
The PC industry has come to play a vital role in global industrial and
economic development. Over the years, the industry has developed a robust
value chain and a precise division of labor. The leading international PC
vendors' decisions as to how to position themselves within the global PC value
chain are influenced by the way the industry has evolved, and by the changes
in the competitive environment. This report examines the development of the
global PC industry and the changes in its structure, with the aim of
clarifying the process of globalization in key value chain activities,
including R&D and production.
