Abstract
In 2007, the leading desktop PC brands achieved considerable success in their
development of emerging markets. At the same time, the ongoing trend towards
low-priced PCs encouraged consumers, who in the past would have focused on DIY
or white-box PCs, to begin buying brand-name PCs. The desktop replacement
effect has affected the clone market more than the branded vendors. As a
result, the Taiwanese desktop PC industry saw annual shipment volume total
46.06 million units in 2007, representing an annual growth rate of 11.4%. This
report will examine the major trends in the evolution of the desktop PC
industry over the last few years, and will provide a forecast of Taiwanese
desktop PC industry development in 2008 and beyond.
